Seemed apt.

Not in the least unhappy - I find it rather amusing, actually.

... and yes, I've met two transgender individuals in my lifetime but I don't know any as friends. One was born a woman who had undergone the hormone therapy to become a man but did not have the surgery yet. The other was a transvestite who frequented the B-movie theatre I used to go to in Missouri. Other than them, I've encountered dozens on buses and planes, at meetings and conferences, etc., mostly in large cities. Then again, I notice them a little more frequently than most people because I know the differences between men and women on a skeletal level and that is what my eyes detect most readily.

Perhaps someone could answer this simple question.
Do you consider it a luxury operation?
I've made it clear from the start that it's the OPERATION I consider an act of luxury.
Unlike Michael, I would be happy to be associated with transvestites.

although all respect to Michael for having his views.

However, I repeat, do you consider it a luxury operation?

No. I consider that designation to be entirely arbitrary.

All medical operations are either 'emergency' or 'elective'. That's it, pick one.

I don't think it is rationally possible to categorize a particular elective medical treatment as a 'luxury' unless you call any and all elective medical treatments a luxury.

Could you explain what you mean by "it?"

Do you mean hormone therapy? Do you mean top surgery, bottom surgery, what? This isn't a cut and dried issue.

Since I know nothing about hormone surgery, I'll limit it to the full operation.

Well hormone treatment isn't surgery.

By full operation you mean a complete genital sex change? It's a big step, and out of reach for most people, but not something I'll criticize.
