Northern Michigan and Canada, I should say, as we spent two nights on the Canada side of Sault Ste. Marie.

Experiencing the locks in action was very cool!
You are lucky the locks were actually open/working. The whole Trent-Severn system has their locks closed because the water is too high. We've got way too much water pretty much everywhere in Ontario this year (though thankfully just short of flood levels).

Hey Donkey, got a question for you...

I just saw some Ohio licence plates drive by today... tag-line on Ohio plate said "birthplace of aviation". WTF? What's that about?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't North Carolina where the Wright brothers made the first successful flight, and thus, the real birthplace of aviation?

Btw, Sault Ste. Marie is considered to be, arguably, one of the worst shit-hole places in the whole country.

The Wright brothers were from Dayton, Ohio, where they designed their aircrafts. They flew in Kitty Hawk because the conditions were more favorable.

North Carolina's license plate says "First in Flight," so we clearly we don't agree on who "owns" the heritage.

Yep. Felt just like home.

The American side, where the big locks are, is much more of a weird little tourist destination. The Canada side is much bigger but basically seems to just be built around the Steel Mill. (The old Canadian locks and park are really great though).

I see.

Well, according to the Alexander Graham Bell rule, North Carolina wins.

Here's an off-the-wall observation...

Where have all the serial killers gone? Seems like we had one serial killer after another through the 1970's, 80's and 90's. Now, I haven't heard of one in decades.

So, was serial killing just a fad that passed? Perhaps mass-school shootings are the new 'in thing' which seem to have replaced them?

Any thoughts?

I am officially back from vacation. We've been up at a lovely lakeside cabin in Muskoka for the last two weeks.

Hey look, it's Donkey's birthday!

Happy birthday Donkey! Seems like I've known you (online) for well over a dozen years by now. You used to be such a young one!

So, is Florida still above sea level?

We don't get much US weather news up here.
