There were? I always thought they were married.

For some reason I remember somebody saying that "if" Dennis Kucinich were elected he'd be the first single President. (2004 election anyway. Now he has a super hot redhead English wife.)

Jefferson was a widower. Martha, his wife, died in childbirth in 1782. He never remarried and was single when he took office in 1801. He had Dolly Madison take care of all the public womanly duties during his presidency. While Dolly was throwing presidential parties, Sally Hemings was taking care of everything else.

My avatar is a symbol of the Masonic Knights Templar (or also called the Order of the Temple). "In Hoc Signo Vinces" means "in this sign you will conquer", the phrase is said to have come from Constantine the Great, the first Christian emperor.
