Well since he isn't around I'll give mine: new expansion makes the game a must buy if you like 4x space games. Makes the late game interesting, new ways to alter your species. Just in general a great game.

Best thing they did was make it plausible to place "tallish." Paradox games are usually about how big can you get in order to be effective. While you still have to have a sufficient resource base, the ability to do mega constructions (habitats and ringworlds) opens up a lot of possibilities.

That's encouraging. I nearly always play "tall" in 4X if I can. Every now and again I'll get it into my head to try for a wide, war-mongering empire in Civ, but almost inevitably I get bored/frustrated with the repetitive micromanagement and abandon the game before it's over.

Today's rant... stupid expressions that make no sense.

"He has a mind like a steel trap"

Apparently people use this expression to describe someone who is supposedly intelligent. That being said, steel traps close tight and never open again. That's the analogy of a closed mind and therefore, not an intelligent one.

"I could care less"

This one is specifically an American expression. If one could care less, then one actually does care somewhat to begin with. The correct expression, rather common outside of USA, is "I couldn't care less" which accurately states that one just doesn't care at all.

It means that things don't escape that person.

I can't speak to its use outside of the United States, but "I couldn't care less" is used here as or more frequently as its incorrect partner.

I understand the expression, I'm just pointing out it a rather foolish one.

I'd consider it an insult.

I don't think the expression is used outside the USA. And I agree, Americans do use both expressions (with the correct one being more common).

I see the wrong one all the time in various internet comment threads - some American uses the "I could care less" comment and gets jumped on every fucking time by the non-Americans. The defenses I've seen for that expression would make you howl with laughter!

I understand the expression, I'm just pointing out that it seems like a rather foolish or ambiguous one.

I'd consider it an insult.

Seems like something has fucked up with the Trump Regime thread.

Can anyone see page 19 of that thread?

Nope. I thought it was just my browser being weird.

EDIT:

I can get to the two posts on that page by accessing them directly:

http://www.discussionworldforum.com/...&postcount=181

http://www.discussionworldforum.com/...&postcount=182

But I can't get to the page itself.

I guess we should consider that thread dead and start a new one. I'm sure the "Trump Regime" will be a continuing topic of discussion!
