Pat Buchanan has a very long history of spewing rightwing extremist garbage. I see no reason to expect anything different from him these days.

And the article posted by Tom Palven is no exception. Pat Buchanon appears to want to deprive Poland and its neighbours of NATO defence and also to use Russia's past as a power factor in for example Africa, as an excuse for more recent Russian expansionism.

I believe that Buchanon's article is a classic example of the soft bigotry of low expectations being shown to Russia.

We resent you because you use idiotic (mainly Ukrainian) propaganda to try to paint us as bad people. Like claiming that we oppress and mistreat the Tatar population in Crimea.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG_bcMc5GqQ
This is in Bakhchisaray, Crimea, yesterday. Bakhchisaray is the biggest population center and traditional cultural and political capital of the Crimean Tatars, yes, those ones Russia apparently discriminates and represses so much lol

Yet here we have up to 55,000 people, mostly Tatars, but also Russians and others who have joined in the fun, celebrating Khydyrlez, the annual spring harvest festival of the Tatars. Under Ukraine, it was a private affair of the Tatars, organized by the pro-Kiev "Mejlis" organization (recently banned by Russian authorities), but not supported by the government.

Now, under Russia, it is a government-endorsed holiday, working people get a day off for it, and events are funded, organized, and otherwise supported by the Ministry of Culture.

Yes, the Mejlis is banned: http://www.rferl.org/content/russia-.../27699264.html

And yes, there has been a crackdown on pro-Ukrainian and pro-Western Tatar media: https://intercontinentalcry.org/crim...now-vanishing/

But... Pro-Russian Tatars are doing just fine, and even have become prominent and powerful in their own right.

Ruslan Balbek, who, by the way, has been arrested by "democratic" Ukrainian authorities in 2011

for his anti-Mejlis activism

is now a Deputy Premier

Remzi Ilyasov is Deputy Chairman of the State Soviet, Crimea's parliament

In August of last year, Ilyasov, along with Mufti Emirali Ablaev, the Islamic spiritual leader of the Crimean Tatars, who has also decided to cooperate with the new Russian authorities and, in turn, kept his position, attended a meeting with Putin, along with other important delegates from Crimea's ethnic and religious communities

During the meeting, Ilyasov gave Putin a gift, some sort of a Tatar artifact which signifies peace and friendship

Putin, in turn, gave him a medal later

Ilyasov is also the chairman of the pro-Russian Crimean Tatar organization "Kiyrym"

Zaur Smirnov, also of "Kiyrym" has become Chairman of the State Committee for Interethnic Relations

Instead of the "Mejlis"-run ATR, a new, pro-Russian TV channel in Crimean Tatar language, "Millet", is now running

It began broadcasting on satellite as well, in April: http://www.rferl.org/content/crimea-.../27648579.html

And now, pro-Russian Tatar groups want to form their own version of the "Mejlis", to replace the banned pro-Kiev group and counter its remaining influence on the Peninsula: http://en.sobytiya.info/pro-russian-...in-crimea.html

Basically, people who do not create problems are not having any

But, I bet, you will not read that in your newspapers or see on your TVs, in America or Europe.

It's Putin's propaganda that makes you write "us" and "people" rather than "Putin" and "a (...) person".

Yes "us". The West is attacking ALL Russians.

Attacking our officials and businessmen with travel restrictions and personal sanctions.

Attacking our athletes with idiotic "doping" allegations after suddenly banning the one drug only athletes from Russia and maybe a few of other ex-Soviet countries used.

Attacking governments friendly to us with your "color revolutions".

Now sending your fucking troops into Moldova.

And our government, the "aggressor", never even really answers. Even when your pet monkeys in Turkey shot our plane from behind like cowardly scum they are, we did not shoot back.

Even when Ukraine continues their aggression against our brothers in Donbass, we stand back. Ukrainian scum recently, on 26th April, fired without provocation on a DNR road block post at Elenovka with light artillery, killed 6-8 civilians, including a pregnant woman: http://www.fort-russ.com/2016/04/pho...-civilian.html

And still, we are not responding.

But we are the "aggressor"?

No, that's what Putin wants you to think. Western media are only critical of Putin, not Russian people in general.

Western media supports our enemies. That is enough for me.

Whatever - one thing is certain - Western media dislikes Putin, but not Russians in general.
