Though, one issue does seem to stand out for me - and that's the real value of actual campaigning skills in the short elections that are common in parliamentary systems. This tends to nullify any financial advantage. Canadian and British elections don't seem to depend on big money tv advertising, but much more on classic 'retail politics'.

That is to say, Corbyn proved that he's good at actual campaigning. May was terrible.

Just a few years ago, Jack Layton (NDP party in Canada) had a huge surprising election showing because he was a damn good campaigner and his opponents weren't. This really matters in parliamentary short elections. Not so much in US where big money tv is where the action is.

And apparently the UDP (Northern Irish nutjobs) with 10 seats are going to prop up May's Conservative party to form a government.

UKIP and LibDems appear to have collapsed entirely.

Most definitely. I voted for Bernie and am a socialist verging on communist these days, but I actively campaigned for Hillz.

That being said, Jim Messina, Obama's 2012 architect, worked for May and he can now kiss my ass.

I honestly think that the Democratic party will proceed more fruitfully if we bend toward socialism across the board.

Well, I'm not willing to go that far, but I'd certainly agree that the Democratic party has to stop trying to be 'Republican light'. That's been a disasterous policy for the last few decades.

I'd settle for the Democratic party to be 20th century liberal but they'd have to move left to get even there.
