That a landmark peace deal passed in Colombia, moving forward an end to the oldest conflict in the Western Hemisphere?

Is my response showing up? It seems to be glitching on mine, but when I go to "new posts" it says I'm the last poster.

Okay, I thought there might be something else. Agreed that any deal to end the war in Columbia is good.

Yes, I couldn't access your post until you posted the second one.

Oh. Ya. That's about it. I don't think the new deal is super different from the last one, just "clearer."

Odd.

4 million people went to vote in the primaries. That is 10% of the electorate. And at 90%, those who went voting were right voters.

So, this says something on the right in France, at least on part of the right. They have been quiet many years, for example not ostentatively exercising their religion. I think this vote is their revenge: they want to show that they exist too.

Not so fast!

Fascists here, fascists there, fascists everywhere.

'Xcept for France that is.
Well wrong on this one. I hope your prediction holds true for France.

If the prediction is that the extreme right will win, I don't mind being wrong at all. Far from it obviously. But as several commentators have pointed out: who really won? Those 53% are the aggregate of everybody who's not extreme right. It were the left parties but also the center ones and even the moderate right ones. If this were a parliamentary election those 46% would have given an absolute majority to the extreme right. As early as 2018 the Nazis might be back in power in Austria

Me too because I'm less confident now. I can't get a handle on Fillon really. Explicitly christian conservatism might take a LR primary but is that going to be enough to convince La France de la laïcité? I've always been aware that there's a strong old school reactionary faction in France but is that appealing enough to counter the mindless drivel from the FN which is so en vogue now? If people such as yourself are going to abstain en masse, who knows...

Note to North Americans:
So much for 'socialist' France. The choice in France is between a 19th century aristocrat religious fanatic and Ilsa of the SS.

Who the hell is Emmanuel Macron and where does he come from?

Three years ago, 95% of the French would have answered "Je n'en sais rien", i.e. I have no idea. Today he might very well be on the road to become the next Président de la République, i.e. the next French President.

While he doesn't even have the television notoriety which launched people like Trump or the First Flemish Nationalist, his new movement went from 0% to 25% in months. Ah, he must be a right or left wing populist then? Nope, he's supposedly an 'extreme centrist' (). Is he a man of the people then? Nope, couldn't be further from it. Nothing but elite schools and most of his life he was -cringe- a Rothschild banker.

Then what is his appeal?
Je n'en sais rien", i.e. I have no idea.

Sucre?
