Default Re: Dan Brown

Dan Brown should stop allowing Ron Howard (director), Akiva Goldsman (scriptwriter), David Koepp (scriptwriter) and Tom Hanks (actor) to make films out of the stories in his books. The films are widely condemned as awful, apart from Angels and Demons which was reasonably well accepted. Inferno is the latest victim in the form of a novel to have undergone the Howard-Goldsman-Koepp-Hanks treatment.

Before the first film was released, Dan Brown was a superstar writer, whose books were devoured by readers across the globe. Then films started coming, and before long, people just started watching the films, and consequently not reading the books. Today, Dan Brown isn't anywhere near as talked about as he was before the films started doing their damage.

Dan Brown should either employ a more talented film crewe to adapt his books onto the screen, or else just stop his books being adapted as such, at least for a couple of decades.

Well I doubt Dan Brown has much creative input in the making of the films other than choosing what color pen he's going to use to sign the checks when he cashes them.

But hey, when the source material is trash, the film is usually trash.

1...I don't know why you are talking about Dan Brown's creative input or lack thereof. 2...Well, you consider the source material to be trash - I was talking about the general public's opinion - and the readers of the books have widely praised the books, while the viewers of the films have widely condemned the films' lack of quality. Brown should really think about that, before allowing another film to be made based on one of his books.

It could be that he's just too distracted by all the piles of money...

He seems to spend a lot of time doing something that he doesn't need all that money for - writing books. But your explanation is indeed the only one I can think of - certainly his fame and world acclaim don't seem to have been helped by the films, so yes, that does indeed leave money as the main remaning explanation.

As a general rule, an author would make way more money from one book being turned into a Hollywood movie than they would ever make publishing 5 or 10 bestsellers.

Absolutely, there's no question that he'll have earned lots of money from the films. It definitely appears that he's prepared to forego a certain amount of fame and world acclaim in favour of money.
