Default Seasonal Depression and Daylight Savings Time

Is there a link between depression and this stupid clock-changing nuisance?

The effect is natural and expected with the reduction in daylight hours - daylight savings time merely accelerates/magnifies it.

As far as I'm concerned, the real reason to hate DST is because of why it was introduced in the first place. That is to say, in order to save energy. But every study ever done on the issue points to the increase in energy usage caused by DST. So basically, DST increases mental depressions, increases energy usage and increases the number of pedestrians killed/injured.

So why the fuck do we keep doing this, year after year?

Are you guys advocating keeping the summer schedule, or the winter schedule all year round? Just to be clear.

I don't know and don't really care. I object to the arbitrary changing of time every six months for no good reason.

I'm in favour of Internet time. Same clock everywhere on the planet. It's just a convention after all. One or two generations and everybody is used to it.

That seems to make sense since it's actually the same second all over the planet, although we'd have to get used to knowing that it would be light at 10 AM in Jacksonville, FL, and dark in Shanghai, China or vice-versa.

Are there other downsides to this proposition?

Plenty.
Massive opposition to it especially in rural and/or less technological areas where the benefit isn't obvious.
The transition would be costly. A heck of a lot of global computer systems would need to be recalibrated, including the entire satellite network.
Endless, endless bickering over who gets the zero-point, meaning the one timezone in 24 where the time wouldn't change.
