![]() I went to you tube to listen to For The Longest Time, pure doo-wop rock 'n roll by Billy Joel; then went to Wikipedia to see when it was written- 1983, well after rock 'n roll's heyday.
Then it struck me like a bolt outta the blue! I didn't know who sang Little Darlin', the all-time quintessential rock 'n roll song! It was The Diamonds, a Canadian group, 1957: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCrpUsLd5kE I also learned at Wikipedia that "Billy Joel is a secular Jew and an atheist." Good man!

![]() Addendum:
These are the original Diamonds performing in 2007. Three of the four have since died in their 70's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmT1-jEmK74 Note: I really love the solo monologue, "My darlin' I need you, to call my own and never do wrong..." What makes it especially precious is that it doesn't make sense. ![]()

For the record, if we are talking about quintessential rock'n'roll hits from the 50's, I vote for Rock Around the Clock or Johnny B Good.

![]() For a real change of pace here are a few fellows playing Arkansas Traveler.
The camera turns to watch each one play his own version of the melody, and they're all terrific: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...2011&FORM=VIRE
