The US supporting Wahhabi takeover of Syria by announcing we're going to help Saudi Arabia finance the rebels?

saudi arabia is america's second ally in the middle east. The special relationship has always existed between America Israel and Saudi arabia.

You have to be kidding. Saudi is the intellectual base/home of Al Queda and probably the single most hated country in the Middle East to American people.

US government does have an alliance with the House of Saud, but they keep it very, very quiet because it couldn't survive the American populace actually knowing about such an alliance.

No American politician would speak of a "special relatinship" with Saudi - especially in public, let alone Congress. They'd get death threats for talking about that. Arabs really are hated over here - and the hatred of Arabs is ethnic, not religious.

I think that might, just might, be what shekib82 means.

Even with the alliance, the House of Saud is no ally of the US.

It is entirely a one-way relationship. US does what Saudi wants, and the US gets oil. That's it. Saudi doesn't do anything the US wants.

two further thoughts

1. President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu don't like each other. This might fuel the perception that President Obama doesn't like Israel when, in fact, he just doesn't like their Prime Minister

2. Something to point out is that the "Iron Dome" missile defense system Israel uses was co-produced and largely funded by the US under the Obama administration. If President Obama hated Israel he wouldn't have given them a state of the art missile platform...

Plus the really big kicker, Saudi support of all OPEC oil being traded in USD. As, to his dismay, Saddam found out the hard way.

Obama's visit to Israel seems to be going well.
