Vacation. It's a place I've always been curious to visit, and my girlfriend is Irish and very interested in going, so it seemed like a good vacation destination.

I actually do very little travel for my company, which is a huge departure from my previous company.

Do you have an itinerary or are you just wingin' it?

We have an plan. Two nights in Dublin, two nights in Killarney, 1 night in a countryside castle, two nights in Galway, and 1 night back in Dublin. I'm renting a car on the way out of Dublin and will be getting around by driving.

So, 4 cities, counting the castle as a city. But, everything is pretty close, so we're going to be visiting Cork and a handful of other places as well. As to the specifics, my girlfriend is planning all of that out in more detail (what sites to visit, what restaurants to try, etc).

Ireland is so tiny that you could theoretically drive laps around the whole island in under a day.

I'm kind of looking forward to that. All of the places we are going to be staying are within a few hours of one another, which means that we have plenty of time to roam to places that we aren't actually staying. I'd imagine that it's how someone would feel on a week-long trip where they planned to visit DC, New York City, Philadelphia and Boston for seeing historical US scenery.

I like all those cities in relatively small doses (small doses only because I'm not really a city person).

The Smithsonian is worth a week on its own.

I'm definitely a city person. Travel to rustic places doesn't interest me at all. I want people, history, buildings and culture, not pretty geography.
