Default A Revolt Against Deference

Found this article in Spiked Review to be interesting. And also interesting was an interview with Steven Lukes with regard to moral relativism.

It's a lovely article. But what about all those same articles about the 'death of deference' I remember reading back in the early 1980's? Did reverence get reborn and die again?

That is to say, they are announcing the decline of something that died over 30 years ago.

What's happening now is that it appears that people have [finally] turned against the mass media bullshit. That's not a lack of deference, that's a prudent awareness that the mass media always lies and never serves or supports the interest of the consumer or citizen.

As for 'fake news' that shit has been around for decades. The difference now is that the mass media and the politicians take it seriously. That's just one more reason to ignore the mass media. The mass media is never your friend. When it comes to the media (particularly but not exclusively the US media), if you are not paying for something you consume, you are the product being sold.
