According to the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU (Named for former Supreme Court justice William Brennan, not lying CIA torture-advocate John Brennan), "The US spends nearly $1 trillion annually on national security programs and agencies."

With all due respect, it has long been known that about 1/3 of the US defense spending is hidden outside the defense budget. And the US has the highest defense spending per capita - based on only the official figures which are only a fraction of the total US defense spending.
