Default Why do male humans get cantankerous with age?

Why do male humans get more cantankerous as they get older?

And indeed, DO male humans get more cantankerous as they get older?

Most males die before getting too old. In my experience, the vast majority of notably cantankerous old people are women.

I suspect that that aches, pains and general deterioration of the mind and body is the source of such cantankerousness amongst old people generally.

Btw, I don't think I've ever met anyone over the age of 70 whom I'd call pleasant or happy. Most of them seem quite miserable.

I have. Unfortunately the first one that comes to mind is getting a little grouchy, but then, his wife (of similar age) is dying, while his health persists. I imagine it would put anyone on edge.

But yeah, old women are just as grouchy as old men. Absolutely.

I learned a new word today, thank you, Nick.

Well, majority of men here in Russia probably don't have a chance to become "cantankerous", since average male life expectancy is at 60 to 62, 12 years less then women (72-74). It is the women who get "cantankerous" here. Lose their husbands early, at, say 60. A man who is sixty years old can find himself a younger woman. But no man would want a sixty year old woman, especially a younger man. So, they are to spend their remaining years alone, or on the bench with other 'babushki'

They are useful for police though. All they do all day is spy on their neighbors and gossip

Babushki know everything about everybody...

I work with (take care of) plenty of older people that are quite pleasant.

What I had in mind was happy 23-year-olds who turn into cantankerous 37-year-olds. This is the trend that I have the impression that takes place.

MeMyselfandI,you're welcome. I was going to use 'grumpy', but I'm not sure the word 'grumpy' is known to the Americans and Canadians.

Donkey, I don't understand why you say TheDrunkGirl is being racist. She didn't mention anything about race.

Michael, I have met very pleasant over-70-year-olds. The cantankerousness that I've been alluding to, must have passed by that time. You must wander in strange circles, if you've never met one single pleasant over-70-year-old.

You've mentioned in the past the old-fashioned racial comments made by some of your patrons?

gotcha now. Good one!

Yeah, those are gone or have moved on. We have a little over forty people now and I would say 2-3 are cranky. Their crankiness usually generates at frustration with another resident. They bitch and complain and that's that.
