That's bcause other religions are austere compared to Hinduism.

Hinduism is quite colorful and fanciful. I always thought the Hindu practice of having a bonfire to roast the widow at a funeral to be the most colorful and exciting of all religious rituals.

This occurred in Russia also, in pre Christian era. Mostly for widows of warriors who died in battle.
