Default "Taigan" safari park, Crimea

We were in "Taigan" safari park, run by a great man called Oleg Zubkov, located in Belogorsk, Crimea, Russia.

It is a huge place, with overhead walkways

Braver souls can take a red bus from the auction shop

and meet the beasts face to snout

The lions are the main attraction here

But, when we arrived, they were mostly sleeping lol

though they became much more active later, chased each other around and stuff

Special breed of lions brought from Kazakhstan

These two are kept in our caged area, separate from the others; not allowed near safari buses either

They are dangerous, apparently, have attacked other lions, even killed a couple; and had gone at staff too.

Continued in latter posts.

There are also tigers, whom my daughter liked, apparently

Bears

Seals

Birds

including the largest bird in Europe, so the sign said

Giraffes

Llamas

Whatever these are (lemurs, I think?)

There is also a petting area with friendly farm animals for children

Amusement rides too, including an observation wheel

Nice place, very clean and well managed

I got to meet Mr. Zubkov himself later, he arrived to his park in his armored Mercedes, with masked bodyguards clutching AKs

The security, apparently provided voluntarily free of charge by a Russian special forces veterans group (the guys definitely looked like Spetsnaz to me... very professional fellows, even better than my own boys, I dare say) is necessary, just in case, after a radical nationalist group in Ukraine threatened his life for supporting Crimean reunification with Russia. He was a famous man, with his network of several zoo parks and safaris in Crimea, for years before 2014, very respected here, and outside Crimea, he is well known even in Moscow, his word means a lot, the crazies in Kiev know that too.

He is also a kind, friendly man, personally went and talked to the tourists riding a train through the park

and then put on a great show with the lions for everyone

Great day, overall.

Enjoying Crimea, so far, very much so.

Yes, Nick, now I am gloating All you silly Europeans boycotting this piece of Heaven on Earth over stupid politics have no idea what you are depriving yourselves of. But, good riddance, I say. Leave this place for us, Russians to enjoy. Ukrainians alone have been crapping it up for years since 1991, whole year since last March was spent cleaning it up, to what it once used to be... No, no more outsiders to our Crimea, thank you.
