Yep. Antoni Gaudí made lots of those. But what else could one expect from a country that ALSO gave birth to Salvador Dalí?

Dali produces hideousness like all artists inspired by surrealism. That image is just horrible to look at.

Which of course just underscored the old adage that beauty and art are 100% entirely in the eye of the beholder. There can never be any objective standard for art because of this.

It is disturbing to look at. Masterfully so.

Having seen a few interviews I can say that I disliked him as much as I dislike his work.

Pardon my threadjacking, but this is a perfect illustration of the philosophic concept of relativism.

What you say about Dali's art ("masterful") is completely true. What I say about Dali's art (hideous") is also completely true.

How can two contradictory statements both be true?

Relativism and subjectivity.

Wim Wenders has a great following because his films depict such "masterful" scenes as men shitting on the beach.

The man was a corrupt asshole, no question. He instigated fake a mountain of fake copies of his work himself. But that doesn't detract from the work. Wagner was a Nazi but his work is still excellent. I don't care who made it, it's what they made.

Nonsense. Wenders is renowned for a whole plethora of things. Only a fraction of it is avant garde.

If 'completely' is synonymous to 'absolutely' then no, the statements can only be relatively or subjectively true else there is a logical contradiction.
