Default Freedom of the Press

It seems unlikely that you'll see this from The Associated Press, but reportedly The Fourth Reich has issued a ruling that allows it to murder journalists, which puts it in the lead over its Axis of Evil allies, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, where people who say things unfavorable to the regimes are usually just imprisoned.

Such a development from a country that has already ruled it to be legal to assassinate its own citizens at the whim of the President and has also abjured Habeas Corpus shouldn't be surprising.

That being said, I'm no fan of the "free press" in general. I've already explained how "the press" is part of our ruling elite establishment, not an ally of truth, decency or human life.

I know what you mean, but don't think that we should confuse the truly free press with the co-opted, imbedded press. It's the little-guy press that is LITERALLY under the gun.

And Obama criticizes Russia about freedom? He needs to shut his mouth.

Why you should disregard the Associated Press. Constant BS propaganda:

Don't you think the same about Russia Today?

Russia Today is probably biased, but at least I'm getting another point of view, as with Al Jazeera.

I like Reuters best,
http://www.reuters.com/news
although there was something in their coverage of the Greek situation that I questioned, but I can't remember what it was.

The Guardian is also less biased toward NATO and the US empire, and doesn't just print press releases from the US State Department, Treasury Department, and the Pentagon, calling it news.

The Associated Press continues to gain on Pravda's long-standing world record for propaganda exceptionalism:

In this case, however, it would be propaganda against the current administration(s) in the west, right? Allegedly trying to discredit a deal they agreed to and want to pass. That seems like a pretty substantial difference from Pravda.

AntiWar.com and (to a lesser extent) the HuffPost are the ones defending the government's position, and doing some by throwing out some pretty hardcore accusations toward the AP. However, its pretty ambiguous who's right here. AntiWar and HuffPost suggest the document is forged, but neither has a source who claims to have actually seen the real document for purposes of comparison. All they have are a couple outside experts who can say the document has what appear to be errors and inconsistencies, some of which are surely explained by the fact that it's marked as a draft.

It seems to me the big problem here, is that (according to HuffPost) neither the IAEA nor the government have actually stepped up to say the content of the document is substantially inaccurate, something they would be strongly motivated to do if it were a forgery meant to sink the deal.

All that to say, while I certainly have no way of knowing how authentic it is, it seems to me that the evidence is pretty thin to go around throwing accusations of forgery and "Niger letter."

Also, is anyone else disturbed by the IAEA, which is supposed to be the nuclear watchdog, signing secret, inspection-related deals with a nation it's supposed to be watchdogging? Regardless of what the deal actually says, I'm unclear on why it needs to be confidential; the value of the the whole nuclear agreement hinges on the process and quality of the proposed inspections.
