In other words, Amiga machines were better than any other desktop computer ten years ahead of its time. Likewise with OS2 Warp.

Bottom line is that the best hardware/software doesn't necessarily win in the market.
price and the network effect are major factors.

Look at the dominance of facebook in social media. it is largely the network effect.

How old are you btw, do you remember using the amiga?

Yes, this is how the Wintel platform dominated the market and why Apple failed to win the market.

Facebook is as dominant as MSM Messenger used to be. Facebook is as dominant as MySpace used to be. No one cares.

I didn't have an Amiga but several of my friends did which is why I know about it. I had a Com64 though.

Back in the 1990's there used to be lots of "Mac vs IBM" argument threads out there. Someone would always slam them both with the Amiga/Warp argument and shut both sides down.

What the hell is wrong with people?

Would you accept it when every morning a government representative or a corporate suit comes to your home, opens your snail mail box, opens and reads every letter before turning them over to you?
Would you accept it when every time you pick up the phone a second click is heard which indicates someone is listening in just like in the old days of State Communism?
Would you accept it when every time you open your copy of the Encyclopedia Brittanica a representative of the publisher enters your house to make a note of what you were looking up?
Would you accept it when you go shopping that an indistinct person follows you through the streets and makes notes of every shop you visit and which purchases you make?
Would you accept it when every time you take the car out another car is following you around taking notes of where you drive to, who you meet and how you drive?

Apparently the answer to those and many other questions for most people is: Yes, we wholeheartedly and voluntarily endorse to be subjected to a system which any authoritarian state of the past could only dream of.

Which brings me back to:
What the hell is wrong with people?

People like to be part of the crowd, to be fashionable. If Win10 is the latest and most fashionable OS, they want to have it.

Alternatively, people just want what's easy and don't really think about long term consequences. Indeed, our environment and our oil-problem come to mind as illustrative examples of his very human phenomenum.

Twenty years ago people were fashionable too but this would not have been accepted. Every grassroots organization would have been up in arms about it. Now there's a deafening silence all around. Only the non stop 'terror' propaganda since 9/11 could have achieved this.
