Default Naryshkin treasure

Construction workers involved in the restoration project at Naryshkin-Trubetskoi Palace in Saint Petersburg

discovered this week a hidden room in the palace, and inside it - millions of dollars worth of treasure.

There was a lot of silver and gold

There were also women's jewlerly, and Imperial era military decorations, medals, ordens, badges

There were also found in the room documents, also from the Imperial era and written in Old Russian

which attested that the items in the room belonged to the noble family Naryshkin. It is believed that as the Naryshkins fled their home to escape likely execution at the hands of the Bolsheviks, in 1917, they sealed their familial wealth inside the secret room at the mansion, in apparent hopes that, some day, they or their descendants may come and reclaim it.

As it is, the treasure, already named the "Naryshkin Collection" has been moved to a (as yet unidentified) museum in Saint Petersburg for storage and study by experts, who will attempt to calculate its total worth. There are thought to be descendants of the Naryshkin family living in London, Britain, and they have been notified of the find. By modern Russian law, they are entitled to 50% of the treasure's total worth.

Whoever found the treasure. In theory, at least. In this case, the workers were working for the government, so the government, I guess, will keep the other 50%

You'd think they'd polish up that old silver before they started taking pictures of it!
