So far it looks like third-quarter profits are booming for all 'defense' companies, big pharma, big oil and big ag while those unfortunate companies without public subsidies and/or massive tax breaks are struggling.

Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. (big ag) said its third-quarter fiscal profits were 42% above same period last year. As the largest US subsidized grain and ethanol producer, the sky's the limit if one has its hand in Washington's pocket. As mentioned in another thread he US is also....a net food importer.

I've been reading about the problems with Big US Pharma companies with their empty drug pipelines and a whole slew of blockbuster products going off patent protection over the next 12-18 months (and they got nothing coming on line).

Not a good time to buy Pharma stocks...

Damn good time to buy stocks in Canadian, Brazilian and Indian generic drug companies... (for the same reason as above).
