Firefox turns five years old today.

The only time I use IE is to load Firefox after a HDD clean wipe.

i love it, but it uses too much memory.

Amen. Firefox is, even now, sitting on 160 Mb on my laptop. I can't see how that's necessary.

I gave up being annoyed by that when Windows first started sucking up a gig just to be turned on.

On a related note, I do find it amusing that saving a single document with MS Word - even a single document with a single page with a single word - creates a file that is larger than half my text-file archive (which has 1000's of documents).

One can save a 100 pages of text in a file (.txt file) that is a fraction of the size of the MS Word file with a single page with a single word on it.

It would seem that software makers make bloated software and are probably encouraged to do this by the hardware people who need you to keep buying new machines every two years for them to stay profitable.

My ideal browser would be Chrome with Firefox's spell checker.

It is a little heavy, but it's been a lot more light on its feat on ubuntu than on windows.

I like the way it loads and functions, but didn't spend much time with it. I prefer my familiarity with FF and it's features. It took me a long time to leave IE because it was easy. I need a spell checker.

I made the switch to Open Office. Seems to work like a charm. Imported my Excel files and stored my text files. I just dislike MS's authoritarianism.

Open office has served me fine.

We use Open Office as well, but I tend to run into problems with school, especially last year when I took a computer class. EVERYONE uses Microsoft Office, and when it comes to using programs like PowerPoint there tends to be some difficulties due to some of the features or graphics not being offered. Also, when I save a text document and convert it to a Word document, Word likes to take the liberty to auto-format everything I have done. This is a pain in the ass when using formatting tools like bullets.

My complaint isn't with Open Office, but more with Microsoft and how it is "the only one" accepted and the only thing you can use.
