Apparently Ethiopian troops have been active in Somalia again - this time in support of the transitional government in Somalia.

Locals said that the Ethiopian troops are accompanied by many of the transitional government soldiers with armed vehicles adding that the troops started search operations at the areas. But no weapons were found during their operations.

This Somalia situation is a quagmire and its difficult to figure out what is going on, let alone what ought to be done about it!

Rumor has it that Al-Queda has been evicted from Afghanistan for pissing off the Taliban who run the show there. Al-Queda is apparently looking for a new home and Somalia fits the bill.

As if Somalia didn't have enough problems before the arrival of Al-Queda and Ethiopian troops!

In 2006 the US picked up the tab for Ethiopia to train, arm and field troops (including air power) in Somalia to 'combat Islamic rebels'. This article, dated 2006, refreshes the anti-Islam mindset of past US administration (certain countries favored by special interests excepted):

Is the US again picking up the tab? Or was it a long-term funded arrangement? Ethiopia doesn't have the resources.
