P.S. Lash would also like to know if the Bible and its teachings only apply to those of the Hebrew culture.

alright, to answer this question we need to make a distinction between what Protestant theology calls "Law" and "Gospel." the Law is typically understood to mean the passages in Bible that convict us of our sin. This includes the Ten Commandments, but also some of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and others. Within the Law category, there is a further distinction between the Moral and Ceremonial Law. The Moral Law is the Ten commandments found in Exodus and Deuteronomy. The Ceremonial Law is the endless regulations for actions and eating (the shellfish commandment). The Ceremonial Law was given only to the Jews says all different parts of the Bible and since I (and I am assuming you too) are Gentiles, that part of the Law was fulfilled for us by Jesus Christ.

Gospel refers to the message that all people (not just Jews) are saved by faith in Christ. Fulfilling the Law is not longer for people to be adopted into the people of God. "By Grace we are save!" writes the Author of Ephesians.

Thank you, that clears that up, but there is another question Lasher has for you if you will oblige Him. His uncle has a farm. He (the uncle) violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev. 24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?

Excuse Lasher? Lash doesn't understand, and has never watched that silly TV program.

File that all under the ceremonial Law thing I just mentioned. You're not an Israelite, so don't worry about it. Those passages aren't directed at you.

Pardon me if I don't believe you. You quoted a scene nearly word-for-word.

I saw that episode of The West Wing, too.

It is also word-for-word from that Dr. Laura character as well.

I've also seen it (word-for-word) in one of those bizarre email chain letters that are always flying around.

Ranks right up there with 'chem-trails' and/or plots by 'ZOG' - or promised fortunes from Nigeria.

Wait. You mean I don't have a fortune waiting for me in a Nigerian bank?

Damn.
