Foreign Policy magazine has put out a list of the world's top cities in various categories.
The 2008 Global Cities Index (http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=4509&page=0)
New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Singapore, Chicago, Seoul and Toronto make the Top Ten list (in that order).
Not many surprises there.

I notice that my beloved Toronto ranks 4th in the world for 'culture' - not bad considering that Toronto is a population pygmy compared to the other cities in the top ten.
