In light of Smithsonian’s special July coverage of the frontiers of innovation, we thought this would be an appropriate time to pay tribute to one of the origins of innovation by sharing some intriguing, little-known facts about the wheel.

This is a very interesting article loaded with all kinds of 'factoids' about the history of the wheel.
Most interesting is the first known usage of a wheel was for potter's wheels, not the chariot as has been so often asserted - though the time differential there is very small - almost contemporary developments.
