Here is the 2009 Failed States Index from Foreign Policy magazine:
1. Somalia
2. Zimbabwe
3. Sudan
4. Chad
5. Democratic Republic of the Congo
6. Iraq
7. Afghanistan
8. Central African Republic
9. Guinea
10. Pakistan

No real surprises here except to see that several famously dysfunctional states (Haiti, Burma, North Korea and East Timor) don't even make the top ten list. :eek:
Kenya at position 14 and Nigeria at 15 represent remarkable disintigrations of formerly functional states.
Seems like the list of third world dysfunctional states far exceeds the list of first world states in numbers.
