A (late) Happy Fourth of July, especially to fellow American posters.
We hit most of the traditional "Americana" touchstones between yesterday and today: getting together with family, national parks (in this case the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert), hot dogs and hamburgers, ice cream, watermelon, and fireworks. It was a good time; I hope everyone else has had as enjoyable weekend.

I had to work all day (parades and other recruiting events for the Army) and then I went to my parents house where we "blew shit up". It was quite a show.

I really enjoyed taking my kids to see fireworks here in Murray. My youngest loved them but my oldest was scared.

Dang. I love blowing shit up. Wish I could do more of it. Love to watch shit blow up. Love the sound of shit blowing up. Romantic comedies? Pfft! Give me a movie where a lot of shit blows up and I'm a happy camper.
We saw a few people in the ER who blew their body parts up this weekend. That shit isn't cool.

Bloody anti-smoking advertising people managed to kill Toronto's "Symphony of Fire" since it was a Benson & Hedges event for the last twenty years or so. It was an international fireworks competition that usually ran at this time of year (usually the last show of the week long competition was USA on July 4th). They set up barges in Toronto Harbour where they launched the fireworks over the water.
Those fireworks shows were truly spectacular and a work of art (similcast music was played on a local radio station) - but alas. They spoil one's taste for fireworks. Now seeing the 'regular' fireworks displays seems lame in comparision.
I was at an excellent BBQ yesterday out in the suburbs - perfect weather, lots of kids, beer and badminton. :)
