My wife and I have gotten really interested in learning and playing new games lately. We've been especially impressed with those which have won the Spiel des Jahres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiel_des_Jahres) (German game of the year award).
Of the winners we own or have played Thurn and Taxis ('06), Ticket to Ride ('04), Carcassonne ('01), The Settlers of Catan ('95), and Rummikub ('80). We just ordered Agricola (special award '08), which I'm awaiting with great enthusiasm, and I'm hoping to eventually pick up Dominion ('09) and Shadows over Camelot (special award '06).
We also play Puerto Rico, Munchkin, and Citadels, which seem to be games in the same spirit of being creative, unusual and well illustrated.
Really, there are few things I enjoy more than getting together with friends to spend a few hours with a good game in the evening. Break out a little coffee/tea and some fruit or dessert, talk about life, and try to thwart each other's imaginary strategies and ambitions; it's good stuff. Anyone else an avid gamer with suggestions or reviews?
