Good morning. I've been directed to your forum by a member who is also a member at a Political forum I recently left. I was looking for somewhere with more civility than animus and she suggested this place. I do not know that she would want me to out her here, so I'll just say "thank you."

A little about me... I'm an RN working in an Emergency Room in a semi-rural community of west central Florida. As such, I have a great interest in the healthcare reform debates taking place in the U.S. I've not made up my mind about Pres. Obama's plan; there are too few details as yet. Healthcare reform is a complex issue and the decisions we make now will have long-lasting consequences. I'm extremely interested in how other countries and communities approach healthcare challenges.

I enjoy a spirited debate, with all sides represented, but I truly abhor the bitter partisan head-knocking I'm seeing these days. This rancor does little to move the converstation forword; in fact, it only serves to stall the very important discussions Americans must have about the future of not only our nation, but our place among the nations of the world. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for legitimate protests, but there are issues and then there are those who will protest the sky is blue if they don't like the person who made the declaration.

My political leanings are left of center on social issues and I'd say centrist and maybe even a bit right of center on fiscal issues, depending on the particular issue. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and engaging in some good discussions... and maybe even some fun. :)

And greetings to you Lily.

I'm sure you will find this forum rather serene compared with many other forums out there. :)

I'm big on the heathcare discussion, though I get tired of arguing about socialized medicine with people who know nothing about it. It is a serious and complicated topic that deserves better treatment than just partisan posturing.

And yes, we most certainly do like a nice variety of serious discussions and lighthearted fun here, so make yourself comfortable and post as much as you like. :)

This board is OK. It is civilised compared to others. I am also rather to the center, you will probably find it otherwise though, but this is because I live in Europe which is, as a matter of fact, "left" to the US on the western political spectrum.

Welcome!

Aha! Well, thank you so much. I truly do appreciate you posting the link to this forum. I did some searching on my own and did not find this board. I give you this dancing, uhm, banana, as my thanks.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

It does seem as if "social liberal, fiscal conservative" is a fairly common viewpoint around here. :)

And we are trying to get our search engine ranking up... (that's not easy for new forums).

It's the most common sense viewpoint, IMHO.
