Law center: Shooting suspect has 'long history' with neo-Nazis

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An 88-year-old Maryland man with a long history of ties to white supremacist groups is the suspect in Wednesday's fatal shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, two law enforcement officials told CNN.

James W. von Brunn served six years in prison for trying to make what he called a "legal, non-violent citizens arrest" of Federal Reserve Board members in 1981 -- a prison term he blamed on "a Negro jury, Jew/Negro attorneys" and "a Jew judge," he said on his Web site, Holy Western Empire.

"He is in our files going back way into the 1980s," said Heidi Beirich, a researcher for the Southern Poverty Law Center, based in Montgomery, Alabama. "He has an extremely long history with neo-Nazis and white supremacists. He's written extremely incendiary publications, raging about Jews, blacks and the like."

This is more ugly business. At the very least, this does show that the DHS report from a couple of months ago about the potential of rightwing extremist violence was right on the mark. Of course the report was totally ridiculed and pretty much dismissed as the work of leftwing propagandists.

Welcome to Holocaust Denier Land.

Given his age and name he could possibly be an actual Nazi with a fake background rather than a neo-Nazi.

These guys are the reason there are Holocaust denial laws in Europe. It's never harmless "historical research". Note that I'm hereby not defending these laws. I've been undecided about them for one or two years now.

His Internet ravings are awfully similar to those of some actual people many of us have encountered on sites here and there. Food for thought for those who think I go over the top when addressing the extreme right.

I have never been able to understand how anybody could truly believe that the Holocaust never happened. What do they think Auschwitz and Buchewald were? Country clubs?

I saw a report yesterday about how in general right wing extremist groups and hate groups are getting larger and more active as of late. It stems from the combination of the immigration debate, Obama being elected, and the recession. These are not good times. It's funny that earlier in the year the department of homeland security said something about this and conservatives got up in arms that they are being unfairly targeted but now between Dr. Tiller being killed and this incident maybe they will see what was being talked about. You know it's getting scary when the guys at Fox News are reporting it.

Some claim they were fabrications made after the war by Hollywood. I kid you not.
Some claim they were just prisons were only a handful died.
Some claim they were nothing more than labour camps with an occasional death by accident.
None can answer where most members of pre-war Jewish families have gone off to though. Apparently they just vanished.

When did a plane hit the Pentagon?

And if racists want to make a push for power, I would gladly push back. Fuck that trash.

Having met a few Auschwitz survivors during my life as a member of a Jewish family I'd be hard-pressed to converse with people holding those opinions. As they are out there, they're always on my short list of people to avoid (ex-con labor aside, I am flexible).
