I've been meaning to add some jazz to my collection - though I know NOTHING about it and generally, I'm not a huge music fan to begin with - I like it, but mostly as backround stuff.
Anyway, could you suggest some jazz names that I might like? I think I like the 'older' style of bluesy-jazz, kinda laid-back with big fat old guys and deep raspy voices as opposed to what might now be called 'fusion jazz' or whatever. I'm no expert! I'm just looking for a few names that I ought to checkout. I'm not looking for the latest-greatest-newest or most innovative jazz out there - rather some older popular classics would be more like it.
(of course, my question is open to anyone's suggestions). :)

Wow! Thanks! :thanks:
That looks like an interesting list with lots of names to check out. Other than Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett, I've not heard of any of them! I do have a "best of" collection of Miles Davis and I really like that. That's the entirety of my jazz collection. :o
Though... I suspect it will start to grow soon enough. :)

How about.....
5 bands you will roll up your car window for, so no one will know what you're singing along to and you don't have to be embarrassed.
1. Depeche Mode
2. Foreigner
3. Def Leppard (we have all at least once sang into the steering wheel when "Love Bites" comes on) (at least I hope, or I'm going to have to change my screen name to save face)
4. The particularly cheesy songs from the Moody Blues (The Other Side of Life, I Know You're Out There Somewhere, ect.)
5. INXS
