What to post for my first OP on a new to me forum, ah, something hard hitting and with depth. Something that demonstrates my vast knowledge. Something really sophomoric!
No kidding, its right there in the link, you can't make this stuff up.
"...shows family life to be a drain on testosterone levels, prompted Rutgers University sex researcher Helen Fisher to advise this month that males in the "captivity situation"-her term for married with kids-"go on the Internet and look at porn" as a kind of hormone-replacement therapy. "[Porn] drives up dopamine levels, which drives up your testosterone," she tells NEWSWEEK, while kissing your wife or hugging your kids drives it down."

Kissing your wife kills my boner, too, but I do it anyway.

Maybe we could do with less testosterone...

Wow.
Its not like the world is suffering from any shortage of testosterone - or porn...
In my personal experience, balding old fat guys (and married with children) are the angriest dudes on the planet with the biggest passion for hard-core rightwing politics and invading small countries with big expensive weapon systems.
And we are to believe that this group is "suffering" from not enough testosterone?
And the whole "kiss wife is bad, porn is good" message is just pathetic 'shockmongering' journalism.

Could be confusing testosterone with greed.

It did our miniature donkey and our male dogs a lot of good. Changed their behaviours immediately. I wonder what the Castrati of old were like in regards to this?

That's why I emphasised our miniature donkey. I have no intentions of bringing clippers out your way. The device in question is actually a crusher more than a clipper - it even has a beautiful Italian name; the burdizzo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burdizzo).

 Burdizzo. I like that. With a name like that, you'd never suspect that it's used for nut crushing.

I don't think local is used in castration. I can ask my dad, but I'm pretty sure we don't use it.

I know it's used on horses but that's due to the animal's size and guaranteed reaction to having its nuts crushed. Calves were formerly roped and tied down (and still are in small operations) but I'd think holding chutes are now the norm for volume operations.
I wonder if Michael's still following the thread?

If you read the wiki article on the nut crusher, it says people have died castrating themselves from it, because the pain is so intense they went into a coma  So they probably do use an anesthetic on horses they use this on... Unless the operator enjoys getting kicked in the face.

The vet was the one doing the operation - I wasn't at any level of competency to have attempted this one. As far as I can remember there was one drug used to sort of reduce the pain and then a local used to drop him to the ground for about 20 minutes. She was very quick in getting it done and he came to without any noticeable complaints or complications afterwards. He got up, walked around, attempted to rear but thought better of it after getting about 2 inches off the ground and then has been a pretty well-behaved animal ever since.
Where the hell did this thread go to BTW? I'm kind of sorry about hijacking it in this manner and I normally wouldn't have, had I not chuckled so much every time I saw Michael's postings of almost audible discomfort.
