It's one of my favorite shows of all time! The deaths are silly, yeah, but my gawd, once you get into her family's plight you're going to really appreciate the silly death reprieves.

I enjoyed the episode about the schizo. I felt sorry for him :(

And the more Dolores grows on George the more she grows on me. The last episode I watched was the one where Roxy was mourning the anniversary of her death. What a shitty friend

Isn't that an old Warren Beatty movie from the 1970's?

No, same name? This one is recent with Bruce Willis, Dame Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, and Mary Louise Parker.

Love that show.
I mentioned the contest they had driving 750 miles on one tank of fuel in another thread. They've had a few showings of the Bugatti Veyron which is most likely the peak moment for petroleum powered automobiles. 2 seat cars that go 260 miles per hour are great but not when they get 1.5 miles per gallon.
We mostly enjoy the humor. There's no way we'll ever have a super-car.

The Vietnam episode was my favorite. It was funny and enlightening. Most shows don't really display the culture of the place they visit, but Top Gear knows how to display things you never get to see.

Yep. They're down to 11 contestants now, all of whom will go on a national tour together this summer, and most of them are excellent (IMHO). Tomorow night at 8:00 Eastern they will all perform, :banana:and after the votes are counted, two will be eliminated from contention for top honors on Thurs. night.

I would browse Hulu... but they only show select episodes at a time. Have you thought about netflix? It's pretty affordable and definitely opens up your opportunities about what to watch online.

Like FIREFLY for instance.

yeah..we already have NEtflix and I LOVE Firefly. That is one of the best shows ever. I have decided to boycott Fox just for canceling that and my other favorite The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Those bastards cancel every one of my favorite shows. I guess I'm just burned out with tv shows lately. I liked the Sapranos, House (now it's terrible since they canned Cameron and House and Cuddy are an item), Dexter, Weeds. I've watched all of these shows to death. I tried Bones but hated it. It's just another Law and Order rip off. It seems that these days tv shows and music are so repetitive.

Shin-Chan, NipTuck, Lost (season 6 has just been added), Arrested Development, Parks and Rec, The Office (American and British versions)are on Netflix, too. Rocko's Modern Life  Not to mention they are getting better with their new releases and Starz play. If nothing else, try Dead Like Me. It's worth the watch.

OHHHH!!!! IT MIGHT GET LOUD with Jack Black, Jimmy Page, and The Edge is a great documentary. Great fucking music. I'm serous as a membrane on this one. Seriously.

House and Cuddy make a ridiculous couple. House and Cameron would have been a better match-even though Cameron is highly annoying, imo/

Just watched 'Secrets of the World' on RenTV. Interesting new show, about the unexplainable phenomena, paranormal, etc.

Particularly many men watch it. Know why? Because the host is Anna Chapman.

Seriously.

Just finished watching Season Two of Battlestar Galactica.

I like the show, but I find things get very uninteresting when they get all obsessed about the various personal/sexual relationships between the characters - makes the show less interesting to me.

Bottom line is that sex is the most common thing in the world - it just isn't interesting to me unless I'm involved in it. Space ships and space battles, now that's extraordinary, different and interesting.

I loved BSG. I think characters and relationships are important, but BSG also does and excellent job of keeping the big picture.

Season 3 is my favorite, but I think it's also the one that a lot of people tend to think is too weird and aimless. It starts getting really trippy toward the latter half.

Well, I found season two to be a heavy/tedious with pretty much everyone obsessing about their dead lovers and sexual rivalries (except Admiral Adama).

And the show is plenty 'trippy' already with all these phantom characters existing in people's minds.

(i.e. an image of 'six' appears constantly to Dr.Balthezar, and likewise an image of 'Dr.Balthezar' pops up to haunt Number Six back on Caprica)

Yes. It gets MORE trippy. :D

(Although I watched the entire thing very quickly, so I may be blurring together seasons.)

I'd suggest you keep on watching it Michael. There are elements in the script that, on the surface, appear to be about individual sexual interludes and relationships. When the whole series was over/revealed though I found myself reflecting on the deeper commentaries that almost every one of those relationships carried with them. I think you'll like the ending because there are several twists that were examples of brilliant script-writing.

Agreed. But I think we shouldn't discount the importance of relationships. Relationships are important, and they do affect events on all levels in real life. BSG is merely being honest to this reality.

If one wants a show about human drama and human relationships, why bother with the charade of a spaceship? Might as well just dress them up, give them all jobs as doctors and lawyers and call it a Soap Opera.

For a show about a spaceship at war, I want to see the spaceship at war. If it is just going to be some silly soap opera, I wouldn't bother watching it.

Season 3 was just one long soap opera. Very boring.

Imho if the show isn't going to have compelling character storyline why bother watching at all? The best aspects of BSG aren't the science or the explosions and space-chases. It has amazing characters, an excellent plot, and in my opinion, one of the best invented political intrigue stories I've seen. Halfway through the third season, the show starts tripping balls. I think a lot of people didn't care for it. I know I did.

Oh yeah, it also has explosions and spaceships.

There's a reason that the original Star Wars trilogy is vastly superior to the new one, and it ain't because the original has better action sequences.

Because the theme, plot, setting or dialogue are interesting/entertaining?

I disagree about the characters. I consider ALL the characters in the show to be highly predictable and very typical - except for the fact that just about EVERYONE of them has a dead mother/brother/lover/son that they are obsessed with - even before the show starts!

Seriously, you could replace/change various characters and the show would still be just as interesting to me. That's because they are all cardboard characters that are stand-ins to represent character types or plot elements. None of them act out of character, or have any character trait that isn't perfectly suited to their role or the plot.

Dr. Balzar will sell his soul to anyone who offers a nickel for it. Admiral Adama is the 'wise old man' who is battle-scared hero-dad-god who is always honorable. Kara Thrace (Starbuck) is the wild tough and unpredictable bitch in every situation. Lee Adama (Apollo) is the upright, uptight, honorable and honest son of the Admiral who thinks he can never achieve enough to impress his dad. These last two principal characters are of course totally in-love with each other since day one, but can never commit to each other, so they both constantly get involved with other 'surrogates' who are never quite as impressive as the original and this leads to romantic unhappiness for both of them...

VP Zaric is the lovable, redeemed criminal and respected 'man of conscience' - who is revealed to be a man of violence with no conscience (gosh, I didn't see that coming!). And the XO (Sal or Saul) - I just want to shoot this bastard - but only after watching his wife get tortured! XO and wife characters were designed for serving the plot alone. Lt. Gata makes a good wishy-washy and spineless traitor (twice no less!).

I suppose I do like a couple of the Cylon's - Number Five and the Eight's are pretty interesting (Sharon/Boomer/Athena). I loathe the Number Threes and Sixes most of all!

Halfway through the third season, the show starts tripping balls. I think a lot of people didn't care for it. I know I did.
I stopped watching about 1/3 way into season 3 - I hated it.

Oh yeah, it also has explosions and spaceships.
I didn't see too much of that at all. It was all soap-opera relationship stuff.

Btw, its not the spaceships and explosions (or battles) that I like, it is the idea of what they are doing that is interesting - deciding where and why to run or to fight a battle - and/or how to fight it. That is interesting to me from a plot/theme/entertainment point of view. The actual 'shoot'em'up' stuff doesn't thrill me much at all since that's when I'll go to the WR knowing I'm not missing anything significant. :D

Btw, I agree about the politics - that part is very interesting. That's part of why I like the series - the theme/plot part. :)

There's a reason that the original Star Wars trilogy is vastly superior to the new one, and it ain't because the original has better action sequences.
I don't know about that.

The original Star Wars had excellent action sequences for its day and technology time period. For the new ones, the market was already long ago saturated for special effects and action sequences, so that stuff isn't very impressive any more unless it is truly unique/special - like Avatar or LOTR with the computerized body-size perspectives (or Roger Rabbit a few years back for the interaction between 'live characters' and cartoon characters).

Anyway, that's beside the point. The real reason that the original Star Wars series was so good is because it was actually entertaining. It was funny, humorous and didn't take itself too seriously (much like James Bond flicks or old 'B-movie' style adventures like Indiana Jones). The latter Star Wars series was way too heavy and serious and had zero humor (or entertainment). It was just another highly forgettable and completely irrelevant space-action-adventure movie (three of them actually).

Btw, the immortal bard always put some slapstick comedy scenes into all of his plays for a reason.

I guess we'll have to disagree about the quality of the BSG storyline. I think you're missing a lot of character nuance. *shrug* It's neither here nor there.

But if you skip half of a season of a very short show (a half season with a lot of character development btw), then you're not really critiquing with a full perspective.

I'm barely able to even watch the show anymore. I'm perserving to watch the show since so many say it is good, but my interest is totally gone and has been for quite a while. The last few episodes of the 4th season are as bad as anything in the 3rd season, its getting all mystical and pseudo-religious now and that's just plain silly.

I guess its best for me to just not to bother watching it anymore. I can't watch anything made in Hollywood without finding it to be vaccuous crap. American style religious culture just doesn't translate well outside USA - it just comes across as corny.

All the characters are 100% identical from the 1st season to the 4th season. There is ZERO actual character develpment in the show - unless required by the plot, but then it is forgotten soon after. Very typical Hollywood that.

Trollhunter (Trolljegeren), Norway, 2010

This was a really fun movie! We watched it last night while the baby was sleeping. I wish that I had the opportunity to have seen this one in the theatre because it really is a big screen movie. However, I thought it was entertaining anyway on the 17" computer screen. The character of the trollhunter himself is believable and well played. The teenagers are alright. The effects are fantastic except for a few campy bits. Otherwise I totally believed the trolls appeared in that film footage. I think a full sound system with very good woofers would make this film even scarier. I constantly have dreams about giants like these and they nailed the realism of the experience that I always imagined.
