Okay, anyone planning any wild and decadent Super Bowl parties?
Anyone care to predict the winner?

Not a spectator sports fan.

I've had a Super Bowl party or two in my life, but I don't really feel like doing that this year. I'll probably assemble somewhere to watch it, and hopefully play the game with the squares and scores for the ends of quarters.
And, I think the Steelers should and will win the game.

I'm not a follower of football; I watch the Superbowl for the commercials. No party planned, and I'll root for the Cardinals since they've never been to the Superbowl before.

We're playing that in my office. We are just picking random squares and we'll draw numbers to fill them in when all the squares are purchased. Really a lottery more than a game, but it'll make watching the game more interesting.
I like Arizona simply because they're the underdogs and they've got some talent. However, I think the Steeler's defense will decimate Arizona's coveted offense.

I played that game with some friends last year, who don't follow football as much. I said numbers were supposed to be picked randomly, but they insisted on a scheme where everyone chose five scores at a time until there were none left. I tried to explain why that wasn't a good idea, but wound up just picking the best football scores and winning three out of the four quarters... :D

Can't argue with that. I argued for pick 'ems, but my boss over ruled me after one of the ladies asked how they were picked to play in the Super Bowl.
Say, do you play fantasy football? I would like to get a league going next year. I played with strangers this year and trading was near impossible.

The Steelers are seven point favorites. That's no surprise, but will they cover the spread? I'm leaning toward yes, but I haven't put anything on it. It opened at six and half, and I would have taken that had I been on the ball. I just don't think the Cardinals are very good. Yeah, Larry Fitzgerald is a stud, and Kurt Warner has proved what he can, but...I just have a hard time seeing the Cardinals winning the Superbowl. Maybe I'm letting their history as a pushover cloud my judgment...I don't know.

I know nothing about football. Now what exactly is a spread?

It's a gambling term and not unique to football. Basically, it means you can bet that the Steelers will win by more than seven or less than seven. The seven point "spread" is the current number most sports books are making available for betting. In general, most sports books try make a spread that will attract an equal number of bettors to both sides of the number. They make their money by taking a "cut" of the bets, and if there is the same amount of money wagered on both sides of the number, they are assured a profit.
For example, a person can bet that the Steelers will win the game by more than seven. However, depending on where they place the bet, they will have to wager $110 to win $100. On the other hand, you can bet the Steelers will win by less than seven (which would include losing the game by any number of points).

I have played fantasy football before, but not for a few years. I'd be up for playing in a league.

So? Was it a good game? I heard on the radio driving in this morning that Pittsburg won it 27-23 and that it was a 4th quarter thriller...

I didn't have a vested interest, so I was just cheering for a close game.
Not bad, with some really exciting parts (like a 100 yard touchdown interception run!).

I didn't watch the game but the episode of The Office after it was hilarious.

Done. I'll post a thread in the fall with a sign-up page.
And the game was good. I liked both teams because they all seem like good guys, not just camera whores. I was rooting harder for Arizona because they were underdogs, but I'll settle that they beat the spread. :D
