Historic baby to be born Monday in Kaliningrad
VIDEO
The world's 7-billionth person will be born on October 31 in Kaliningrad.
The decision was taken by the United Nations Population Fund, which is presenting its annual report in Russia's westernmost city.
While no one knows if the child will be a boy or a girl, one thing is for sure: the mother will receive a special certificate and gifts from the local administration.
In 1999, a boy born in Sarajevo was named the 6-billionth person on the planet.

One of them will be #7,000,000,000. :D

Identifying the seven billionth person strikes me as something that is sort of fundamentally impossible.

I think it's called "making it up."

If the sequence of births and deaths line up right, we could hit 7 billion several times over the course of a minute (hour?). There could be a bunch of seven billionth babies.

That was pretty much my take on it. Announcing that the 7 billionth baby would be born somewhere struck me as the kind of stunt that Kim Jong Il would pull. Or, maybe he'd claim to be the 7 billionth baby.

Yes, it'll be something along those lines :)
Absolute rubbish!
Typical of Russian authorities to draw attention to themselves in this nonsensical way :rofl::rofl:

Sure. If they had made the declaration.

Indeed, if it was possible to actually track that fast-fluctuating number, then I suspect you'd be right - there could easily be a bunch of 7 billionth babies born.
With an earthquake taking out a million people, we could have another batch of 7 billionth babies born the next day.

3 newborns in Russia become symbols of "Seven Billion Day":
First - in the East
Boy weighing 3,6 kg born in #1 Birth Clinic, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Mother, 22 year old Marina Bogdanova, kindergarten nanny, for whom little Sasha is first child, and her boyfriend, are to receive a new apartment from the regional government.
"Russia begins at Kamchatka. So, we maintain, the very first child born in this country on Sevean Billion Day, was born here, in Kamchatka.", said Governor of Kamchatka, Vladimir Ilyukhin.
8 hours later
Approximately 8 hours later, in #9 Clinic, Saint Petersburg, Nelly Egurnova was born, and recived the same certificate. She weighs 2,8 kg. The parents are 22-year old Anastasia and 23-year old Roman. Nelly is their second child. Her brother is just over a year old. The family is also to receive a new apartment from the municipal government, along with about $10,000.
The Most Western
Finally, little Pyotr was born in Kaliningrad approximately 9 hours after Sasha in Kamchatka. The boy, weighing at 3,6 kg, is the third child for 36 year old Elena Nikolaeva.
She was honored by the certificate, she says, and the Kaliningrad authorities also promised them rewards.

Officially, the UN has not named Baby Seven Billion yet. As you can see, even here in Russia, the cities and provinces are competing with each other lol

Well, given that there is nearly a baby per second born in India:

It's quite likely that the 7 billionth is born there.
Sorry, Russia.
