So, does anyone have any plans for New Year's Eve?

Any 'dressed to the nines' style decadence planned?

Or just a quiet night at home with the dog?

Inquiring minds want to know! :D

Work til 10 Friday and back at 6 a.m. on Saturday. I am sure TDGuy and I will get our drink on Saturday, which is nothing unusual  It will be my last good drunk for awhile though.

Not a damn thing, just turned down host family's invitation to visit a Gurdwara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurdwara).
I might get some studying and/or reading done, got loads of the latter to do.

I have another test for orientation on the 5th... dosage calculations for IV drip rates. Have to pass it with a 90% in order to start the semester on the 10th.

Arm candy.

I presume you will be serving as?

I'll be in a tuxedo for the usual decadence. 'Tis nice to have a wealthy friend who likes to show off by buying a table of 8 at a trendy restaurant/club for the evening. Suffice it to say that this place has a rather impressive martini menu. They open the doors at 1am to let in the club-hopping set, so the evening gets progressively more lively and festive (besides the booze!). The place has a dress code regularly, so for New Years it is known for some very outlandishly dressed people acting pretentiously! Lots of fun actually. :)

Btw, tuxedos and martinis always makes me think of Bond, James Bond. ;)

That does sound like a blast, actually.

I have this thing where I buy really expensive gowns on a fairly regular basis (on massive discount, of course). I have a closet full of evening gowns and nowhere to wear them.

I didn't even go to prom.

Anyway, having the excuse to make other people gawk sounds good to me.

Have fun!

My emotionally scarred friend and my socially awkward friend are coming over. We're going to knit and be really boring all night. Then, at midnight we'll probably go for a walk and steal leftover Christmas decorations off of spent and curbed trees. I collect orphaned ornaments.

We've carted my wife's beaded gowns around for years, same reason. Takes a cosmopolitan atmosphere in a major US city event and there's not much of that going on out here in the sticks.

I much prefer a lady who prefers the sweatshirt, jeans, and boots of a bonfire/kegger.

Yes. Girlfriend takes me around to her Hungarian friends and shows me off. I've actually gotten to know a lot of them and they are buddies, but I don't forget what my role will be. ;)

We go to two formal balls a year. I bought a tux for this last one, as it makes more dollar sense. Rita has started making her own dresses for them.

I've always enjoyed all non-religious peer group celebrations. Outfitted in a tux with an appropriately attired companion while consuming stimulants does, to me, have a mystique logger bars and casual gatherings seem unable to capture.

Agreed. Don't know why, but people seem to act quite a bit different when they are all dressed up in fancy clothes.

I like fancy dress myself, assuming it involves contemporary western formal dress.
Went to Miami today (1.1.11), took an "island cruise", had fun, got back in one piece. Going to the beach tomorrow.
And a belated happy new year to y'all:party:

Yes, specifically western formal dress. :D

The various 'non-western' forms of formal dress tend to appear rather comical to my eyes, especially third world ones!

As for the Florida Keys, they are an interesting place to visit - lots of old pirate history there.

What part of The various 'non-western' forms of formal dress tend to appear rather comical to my eyes, especially third world ones! wasn't clear in my post?

As far as comical 3rd world type formal dress goes, that one has to be one of the most ... um... unique.

Actually, strike that "unique" thing since I do recall 'codpieces' being all the rage in men's fashion during the first half of the 16th century amongst the elites of Western Europe.
