Today on the news I saw that a man was attacked in Izmailovsky park. Thrown to the ground, shot repeatedly with a pneumatic weapon. Seemingly just another case, happens all the time here, just another street mugging, right? Wrong.
You see, this is the smae cowardly scum who earlier shot his own pneumatic into the polar bear habitat from a window in the nearby building. One bear was injured, though not serviously. It made many people made. Russians love animals, particularly bears. On forums, men promised they will find the bastard before police does.
They did. Nearly killed the guy. A OMON patrol intervened, apparently, saved the guy. Shame.
Barbaric? Yes. Vigilatism? Yes. But I believe subhuman animals like that deserve a taste of their own medicine. I was brought up in the North. White bear is our sacred animal. I'd have gladly killed the son of a bitch myself.

How did they track him from inside the building into the park? I'm not doubting the event, just an avid crime fiction reader curious as to the full story.
Are Russian public parks as dangerous for humans as those in the US are after dark?

The fact that he mildly injured a bear justifies killing him? What if he'd just "injured, though not seriously" another person? Would you still wish you could have killed him yourself?
I wouldn't defend his behavior, but I don't see the justice in inflicting death on someone in retribution for minor injuries to another person, much less an animal.

The guy is an asshole, but I'd say that's a bit much. Maybe he kind of deserves a punch in the kisser, but I think the best way around it is to get him to court.
It's not like he raped and killed a bunch of kids, you know?

I agree with all you guys. But this really pissed people off
Americano, I don't think they found him in the park. Maybe they followed him there, or maybe they took him there to have their way with him.
Parks here are not nice places at night.

A true nemesis would be to put the guy inside that "nearby building" where the polar bear is. If the room is small, even if the guy was armed, he will still die. He'd need an UZI or something.
To be fair, I'd have given the fellow a knife before putting him in the bear-cage.
Eye for an eye is usually very satisfying for mob justice.

Indeed. Well, the bear is a very special animal to us. Like the cow for Indians, or the cat for Egyptians.
In Siberia, for Evenki and other native groups in the taiga, they worship bears and tigers, as guardian spirits. And for the rest of us, it is our symbol. Our beast.
We hate when someone hurts them. In above-mentioned Siberia, there is a whole war going on right now. Used to be Chinese poachers bribed their way in to shoot bears and tigers, they cut their paws off and sell in China, it is medicine there or something... Fucked up barbarians, bastards. In any case, few years ago, group was formed, 'Taezhnye Dukhi', 'Taiga Spirits' (or 'Ghosts'). Native hunters + taiga villagers, Cossacks, etc. Many are special forces veterans. They are like taiga specnaz now. Find poachers and kill them. Chinese afraid to go there themselves now, they try to hire some particularly unscrupulous Russian/Siberian poachers. Works, but not so often. People still value their life more than money.

I can definitely understand the anger that was aroused by this, but I don't feel that it is necessary to to "kill him". I will say that he does deserve some sort of punishment for his actions however, anyone that could willing try to kill or harm an animal for no reason. I can say with some amount of confidence that, this person will not attempt to do this again. At least I would hope they learned their lesson. What do the authorities plan on doing with him?

I like the idea of putting him in with the caged bear he shot. Without a knife.

He'll be charged with abuse of animals.
His attackers will probably have to answer for hooliganism.

Well he may not be getting, what he truly deserves. At least he is being punished for the crime though. As for those that attacked him for his actions, I guess it is only "fair" for them to be punished as well.

Well, he is getting the more serious charge :D
Hooliganism gets you a fine, maybe several weeks in prison.
Abuse of animals if proven and severe, and shooting at a defenseless creature with a pneumatic gun is always severe, that is 3 years, correctional labor colony, Northern Siberia :) Three years of chopping down trees. That will make him think in the future.

Or, if he survives, turn him into a hardened criminal. In the US prison is well identified as graduate school for criminals.

No, labor colonies are not like regular prison colonies.
In a labor colony there is hard discipline, and one of the qualifications for release is you must learn a trade while you are in there, each colony has a certain one they specify in. Until you do, and pass an exam to prove it, they can refuse to let you out, even extend your sentence.
Like these prisoners at a logging colony

In logging colonies, I understand, you have to cut down a certain number of trees per day to even get food!
