Here's a thread to discuss all the places that we have collectively visited.

I know there are some pretty damn interesting places/circumstances between us (*coughJHCcough*).

I spent about six months in Europe when I graduated from college. I stayed about four months in Germany (mostly in Munich with a few weeks around Frankfurt visiting family), and the rest touring other European countries, including France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Hungary. I've also been to Spain (Madrid) and England (Cambridge). I'd definitely like to visit some Asian and South American countries, but with two kids getting ready to start college simultaneously in the next couple years, world travel isn't in the budget.

I've been to Cozumel Mexico twice and to Toronto and Niagara Falls in Canada. Within the U.S. I've been mostly north and northeast, and all through the south but I have never gotten a chance to go out west. I also haven't been overseas which I look forward to doing but with two young kids it will likely be a while.

I've been to the USA twice, once in NYC. The other time I was traveling around the south-west (California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah). Apart from that I've visited a couple of European countries. Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Greece, France, Spain, Luxembourg, GB and Ireland (Dublin), not counting the drive-through countries (Netherland, Belgium). ;)

I wish I could expand my travel activities in the future. There are still so many spots to visit, even in my own country.

Until about a year ago I hadn't been able to travel much. I had been to Colombia once in 1989 (that is, about a year old), Canada a bunch of times (it's almost next door and my mom's family lives there), and several US states, the furthest away being Arizona.

Since then, I've been to (not including layovers in Bogota and Panama), Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador. The first three I lived in briefly on my study abroad trip. We spent a day in Uruguay since it's just across the river from Buenos Aires.

This past summer I spent in Ecuador working with an appropriate technology NGO that does rural electrification. I normally lived in Quito, in the mountains, but made two trips well into the Amazon basin... a different world!

I've traveled the continental US nearly exhaustively (by my count, there are only five or six states of the fifty, including Hawaii and Alaska, in which I have not spent time), and I've been to a number of cities in Mexico. Outside of that, I've never travelled to any other countries.

It's an oddly lopsided mix, fueled in large part by my work travel schedule being fairly heavy and exclusively domestic (I had a couple of "almost trips" - one to Vietnam and one to Munich) so far.

This is something I intend to remedy over the next number of years, but it's on hiatus for now until I'm no longer "house poor" from buying a place a year ago.

Tonight my family is flying to Florida, and tomorrow we set sail (with my parents and my sister's family) on a five-night cruise with stops in Jamaica and Grand Cayman. We're celebrating my father and step-mom's 25th anniversary. We've never been to the Caribbean before, so this should be pretty cool. Won't have internet access, but I'll post some pics when I get back.

Have a good week, everyone.

You know what sucks. I was supposed to go to Jamaica and Hispaniola on a cruise but unfortunately Hurricane Jeanne hit the port the day before and it had to leave two days late from Miami. Instead we went to Cozumel which I had already been to and the Bahamas. But sitting through it as a tropical storm in Georgia on our way down was pretty cool.
