This doesn't sound good at all. Oddly enough I haven't heard much about this in the MSM between the Obama transition, the economic crisis, and problems in the Congo getting much of the African attention.

Another example of Christianity attempting to 'civilize' a predominately Muslim nation. As I recall the US finances and equips the Ethiopian Military in Somalia after making statements that the 'Islamists' (not my word) have 'affiliations' with Al Qaeda.

It is true that conflict and a view that influence is coming from foreign places leads many to extremism but the people of Somalia still seem to be more moderate and not in favor of the radicals that are taking over other than perhaps because they may provide more stability than what they have seen for years. If Ethiopia continues to stay involved (and is views as supported by the U.S.) then it could give the militants more credibility but on the other hand should they be allowed to take over as the alternative?

The US-puppet government that was artificially imposed last year - is near collapse... surprise, surprise.

The only substantial government that Somalia has had in the last ten years was the one eliminated last year by the US-supported Ethiopian invasion.

One gets what one pays for. The US bought anarchy in Somalia and that's what is happening. Same problem the US had in Iraq - if you eliminate the ruling government, you can't just impose the one you want in its place. That new one will be tossed out as soon as you remove your guns that support them.

That's always been the problem with imperialism - the need to station your troops in your client-states permanently to ensure that your pet dictator is able to rule over the local rabble. Remove the troops and the locals start acting uppity and put in a government that you will like even less than the one you removed.

Imperialism ain't cheap with no plunder.
