This is something I've never quite understood the attraction of, though it appears to be a growing movement. What it means, what it stands for or what role it plays is beyond me.

But here's an article on the topic if anyone is interested.

Apparently they do costumes too! (who knew?)

It all just seems to me to be Victorian era 'sci-fi'.

Eh, it's just a popular sub-genre of science fiction.

But like most comic book genres, it all comes down to tits.

I disagree. Their asses look great, too.

Tits are the hook. They sell the book. Ever read Watchmen? Sandman? These are two of the greatest literary works of the late 20th century.

As for this steampunk stuff, I dunno. You know kids. We can blame a good chunk of the goth theme on Gaiman, so I guess this is what we'll see kids wearing next. All we can do is laugh at their silliness.

By the way, The Ascension has a little bit of a steam punk feel to it, but not much. I'm currently working on an 'encyclopedia' to help guide me and keep my story straight. :D

I find the phenomena of 'steampunk' much more interesting as a social movement than some literary sub-genre.

Those re-engineered engines and retro-technology stuff is quite interesting - an appeal back to a simpler time when technology was in the hands of ordinary people - in a way that 21st century technology is no longer accessible to the average educated person.
