Been thinking about going into the military for a while because of the current conditions in job markets for economics and finance as well as how my resume's so weak. Went to the Army OCS website, and one of the options on it is to match your interests with "career" options (http://www.goarmy.com/GetAdvicceResults.do).

Here's a thread for people to report their scores if they're interested. I scored Special Forces and Psych Ops for my lead interests:

Hmm. I'm not sure if the results are put in order of most interested to least interested. Just took the quiz over and it spit out the exact same results but in a different order. The Special Forces options are still listed next to each other (and in the same order) though.

Actually, the non Special Forces options are listed in the same order as well, so maybe I was just really close between one set and the other and the small variation between when I took the test each time made the difference.

Ah damn.

Just for kicks, I put everything as "Very Accurate" and the quiz gave the same result.

Then I tried to emulate a bureaucrat who doesn't want to get in the nitty gritty and just wants to push papers behind the scenes and got the same result.

Guess they're just trying to fluff it up to sell it as best they can.

I did the test, but couldn't cut'paste the results without getting a whole lot of additional info.

Human Intelligence Collector (35M)
Intelligence Analyst (35F)
Signals Collector/Analyst (35S)
Signals Intelligence Analyst (35N)
Cable Systems Installer-Maintainer (25L)
Multichannel Transmission Systems Operator-Maintainer (25Q)
Satellite Communication Systems Operator-Maintainer (25S)
Signal Support Systems Specialist (25U)
Network Switching Systems Operator-Maintainer (25F)
Information Technology Specialist (25B)
Integrated Family of Test Equipment (IFTE) Operator/Maintainer (94Y)
Common Ground Station (CGS) Analyst (35H)
Microwave Systems Operator-Maintainer (25P)
Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Maintenance Support Specialist (94H)
Visual Information Equipment Operator-Maintainer (25R)

Rather surprising since I was previously accepted for the Royal Military College (20 years ago) scoring in the top five percentile of all applicants. They recommended that I go on the general officer career track.

I'm surprised the US military would prefer to use me as an electronic technician, though Intel Analyst would probably suit me rather well. ;)

I don't think the army would want me much.

"Human Intelligence Collector (35M)"

As opposed to non-human intelligence collector? Just what kind of creatures is the Army recruiting these days? :ummm:

Nothing nefarious there at all. ;)

Human intelligence is so named to distinguish it from 'signal intelligence' which refers to electronic methods of data collection.

Btw, have to wonder about the Army's little test there since I absolutely hate dealing with machines and fixing things. I consider that very tedious.

It's called recruiting cannon fodder.

I was curious as to why there were so many mechanical questions on an OCS wannabe list. Officers aren't wrench turners.

No surprise there. US military is highly mechanized and mechanics/technicians get paid much better in private companies. Ergo, the US military probably has a permanent shortage of skilled mechanics/technicians.

I was saying officers don't perform those duties.

I doubt if there is any shortage of officers at all. Probably a surplus of them would be my guess.

I enjoy activities that involve the use of physical, verbal, or human materials to create art forms or products.

This sounds rather scary that Pentagon would want you (in particular) to do this.

More likely a fucking waterboard and thumbscrews!
